Richard’s Biography:
Born on July 14, 1981, Richard spent the beginning years of his life on Long Island. The Travia family relocated to Freehold, NJ when Richard was ten years old. As a student at Freehold Boro High School, he joined many clubs, organizations and activities. He was a member of the National Honor Society, served as Student Council Treasurer, and represented the student body for the high school at administrative meetings with the Board of Education. Throughout his life, Richard proved to be a natural athlete as well, excelling in any sport in which he participated, especially track, baseball and volleyball. He ran cross-country for four years in high school and was All-County and All-District as a catcher for the Freehold Baseball Team. Additionally, Richard was recognized as a scholar athlete and earned the Monmouth County Sportsmanship Award.
After graduating from Freehold Boro in 1999, Richard attended Villanova University, where he continued to remain active and involved as an Orientation Counselor for incoming freshmen and also played volleyball as often as possible. Most importantly, Richard continued to show his commitment to service by volunteering for the Special Olympics and leading service trips for Habitat for Humanity. Richard received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics with aspirations of working in the financial industry. Most people simply attend college, go to class, and complete the day-to-day requirements. Richard’s experience at Villanova went above and beyond the norm. He made a memorable connection with many people that he encountered at Villanova - students, faculty, employees and even Father Edmund Dobbin, the President of Villanova University.
When Richard graduated from Villanova University in 2003, he moved to Jersey City and began working at Sands Brothers & Company as a hedge fund analyst. In November 2004, Richard took an exciting new analyst position at Tradex Global Advisors in Greenwich, CT where he is currently employed. Richard’s father, Paul Travia Jr., is an independent portfolio manager, and his mother, Linda Travia, is an elementary school teacher in Freehold, NJ. Richard is Linda and Paul’s middle child. He has three brothers; Scott, Keith, and Ryan; and two sisters; Chris and Suzanne. Richard has also made a number of close friends over his lifetime who have now become a great support network for him and the family. While at Villanova, he met Katie, his lovely girlfriend of six years. These people have all seen the amazing strength, determination and vivaciousness that Richard demonstrates every day. Richard continues to focus on his recovery and looks forward to his future at Tradex and with his family, friends, and girlfriend, Katie.
